NICKY AND RYAN
GATE STREET BARN, SURREY, JUNE 2017
It was a stroke of luck that Nicky and Ryan came to me to be their wedding photographer, but I'm so grateful they did. With Ryan having a background in photography and Nicky a strong visual identity in mind for their wedding photography, they worked with me right from the planning stage. We discussed types of images they liked and those not so much. But all of their opinions felt aligned with my style and what I hoped to achieve for their wedding photographs. So things were great from the off.
And let's just take a minute to discuss their venue - Gate Street Barn in the Surrey Hills, near Guildford. Tucked away down a quiet little country lane this venue has lots of character. The traditionally built barn serves as the ceremony room, with double doors on both sides to let bags of natural light pour in. Guests flow freely from the space out into the landscaped gardens to enjoy games and take in the stunning views (and the Longhorn cattle). All of this a wedding photographer's dream.
Because of the nature of the venue, which allows everything to take place on site, there's a relaxed feeling to the flow of the day. So as Manny Samra and Ciara McCarthy were helping the girls get ready with their hair and make-up, the boys were getting suited and booted just around the corner. This meant that my second photographer and I could to and fro as and when it suited the couple. And when the big London bus arrived we could get to it fast and get shots of the guests pouring out into the Surrey sunshine.
The couple shots were my favourite part of this wedding, because this was when we really got to explore the beautiful grounds. We visited the cows, climbed fences, wandered through rose gardens and climbed atop a little hill (well the obliging Mr and Mrs McKenna did)!
And then the golden evening light arrived, just as the evening food was being served outside in the gardens. The guests played croquet and took selfies with the cows, and the lovely guys from Tinder Box insisted on feeding us some of their delicious wood-fired pizzas.
One happy couple (and a happy couple of wedding photographers too!)

"We were looking for a photographer for our wedding who would catch a more natural feel, whilst also getting those all important shots too. Steve's style of photography is just that. We love the photos Steve produced. He captured everything just as we had hoped.
We're not ones for being in front of the camera so we were worried this part of the day wouldn't go well, Steve however made us feel extremely comfortable and a lot of the time he blended in so well to capture those natural moments we didn't even notice the camera! The photography ran seamlessly throughout the day even though it was non-stop for him.
We are extremely grateful for all the hard work put in, and the results speak for themselves.
Thanks again, we have some amazing moments captured to help us remember our wedding day.
