Erin and Matt's wedding - 12 August 2017

These guys were so much fun to work with. Right off the bat, one of the wedding themes was “outdoor adventure” and the location was the Lake District - both good signs.

We started the day by heading to the reception venue Knipe Hall in Askham to catch up with Matt and the Groomsmen. This was wedding HQ with family and friends staying here the night before and over the weekend. Lots of room preparation going on and this was my first glimpse at the sheer amount of effort that had gone into the creating this wedding. The majority of the styling and props were handmade and repurposed by the couple themselves with additional vintage furniture sourced from Wilde and Romantic in Cockermouth.

It was typical Lakes summer’s day - ie. throwing it down - but the forecast was good for the rest of the day. The next stop was to a cute B&B to find the Bridal party and catch a few getting ready shots, before heading up into the hills to St Peter's Church in Martindale.

The weather worked out perfectly as the morning rain gave us dramatic clouds for the group and couple shots. When the couple said that we could ask ALL of the guests to join us up on the crag for the full group shot I thought they might be joking, but nope, everyone hitched up their skirts and trousers and hoofed it up there. Totally worth it by the way. And then as the guests all made their way back to Knipe Hall, myself and the couple went adventuring to get some killer couple shots - with stunning Ullswater as our backdrop.

Back to the reception venue and the Sun was out big time by then. Knipe Hall has loads of outdoor space and lawns so the good weather brought everyone outside for a relaxing afternoon of drinks and canapés, followed by a quintessentially English afternoon tea, in lieu of a traditional meal. The rest of the day was filled with some great speeches, awesome dancing to the Groom drumming with his band and more fun couple shots. And what a sunset as we drove off..

I loved shooting this wedding. It was meticulously planned and styled, but incredibly relaxed and laid back with it. The venues and locations were perfect, as was the weather. But crucially Erin and Matt made several allowances throughout the day to breakaway and take photos.
